This is what we are listening today.

“My Cry Ascends is a graceful collection of new Psalms and hymns for the church composed by Greg Wilbur. The music is recorded in a folk tradition with elements of Celtic style and southern harmony. Listeners will enjoy the hardy musical instrumentation: piano, viola, flutes, tin whistle, acoustic guitar, mandolin, bagpipe, hammer dulcimer and percussion..

Sunday’s Poem

Posted in A Song to Sing, Read This, The Lord's Day with tags , on Sunday, June 13, 2010 by Becky

I just found a treasure, a treasure to be shared, poetry that glorifies our Sovereign God. The author is Nathan Pitchford, and this is one of his many beautiful poems:

Lovely Progression

Jesus, how sweet your virgin birth,
Deep, lovely mystery:
Out from the unsewn womb sprang forth
God of eternity!
I kneel before your bed so rough,
My Savior in a feeding trough,
Divine before the world began,
And now in time become a man.

Jesus, how sweet your life on earth,
Your public ministry,
Your miracles of saving worth
O’er sin and misery;
I hear in reverential awe
Your thund’rous utt’rance of the Law,
And offer in my own defense
Your life of pure obedience.

Jesus, how sweet your saving death,
The atoning sacrifice!
My plea rose up on your last breath
Like incense to the skies;
I weep before that blessed tree
Where priceless blood was spilled for me,
Where all the wrath of God was poured
On the Beloved of the Lord.

Jesus, how sweet your rising up
Victorious from the dead
To fill my upheld mercy cup,
To crush the Tempter’s head!
I come by grace before your throne
And there in trembling joy bow down,
Before my King who now must reign
Till he make all things new again.

Bless the Lord, our King who reigns!

Sunday’s Psalm

Posted in A Song to Sing, Bible, Prayer, The Word with tags , , on Sunday, May 16, 2010 by Becky

Psalm 3:8 says,

“Salvation belongs to the LORD;
your blessing be on your people!”

Thomas Watson says about this verse, “The godly are blessed not only in heaven, but as they travel to glory. This is a paradox to flesh and blood; blessed while being reproached and maligned? No matter how sense and reason cast their vote, the godly man is blessed.Though a mourner or martyr, yet blessed…Not only shall they be blessed, they are blessed.” (1)

A Christian sees heaven by faith, and tastes it by joy, and what is this, but blessedness? This makes a happy man”

Lord, as I journey towards my Heavenly home, towards You, help me to live happily through trials, happily in those situations where my heart feels weak, happily knowing that my debt has been cancelled, my sins forgiven, my name is written in your Book, my life belongs to you.

Thank you for your blessing which surpasses all earthly riches, thank you for the crown of all blessings which is having you as my Lord, my God. Thank you for your Spirit, who speaks to me and draws me closer to you, and won’t let me go.

Thank you for a new week, for the joys that are at hand and the trials that may come.

Help me not to forget that I am happy and blessed because of You.

Help me on my daily journey towards heaven.

This I pray in your Name who is above all names.

A Mom’s Prayer

Today I want to raise my voice to you O Lord,

I want to sing a new song before you. A gratitude song.

How can I thank you for allowing me the privilege to be called “Mom”?

Mom, the first word they said.

How can I thank you?

How can I thank you for making my body the place where your hands would knit beautiful beings on your own image?

Sunday Worship

Posted in A Song to Sing, The Lord's Day with tags , on Sunday, April 11, 2010 by Becky

Because every Sunday, no matter in which part of the world we live, we, Christians,  have more in common than in any other day, I want to say: May his grace be with you as you walk into the House of the Lord today.

May we go to the house of the Lord, and rejoice in His word. May we live today in His day according to His will.

A great quote from a small little book:

“Please don’t take sunday for granted. Do whatever it takes to rediscover the wonder of it all. ..look around and remind yourself: “These are my blood.bought brothers and sisters in Christ. we are His church, His people. We are here this morning to proclaim His work in our lives. we are here to give witness to the world of His great love and power and glory’
