Let the Bells Ring Out

Posted in A Song to Sing, Celebrate Life, Christmas, Pondering with tags , on Friday, December 25, 2009 by Becky

Turkey is in the oven, guest friends are resting, and I am still thinking about last night’s devotion. Having Jesus’ life is the best gift I could ever have this Christmas.

Mary had him in her womb only for nine months, and several more she nursed Him. She had Him close to her only  few more years…I have Him always, or better yet, He owns me forever; forever…I can’t wrasp the meaning of that big word: Forever, and ever and ever!

When Jesus left. He said He’d send His Holy Spirit to dwell in us, His children, isn’t that amazing? This Christmas I can’t be more grateful. His Holy Spririt finding a dwelling place in me.

Let the bells ring out. Let the angels praise Him. Let His song be heard through out all the earth: The Savior has come!

Praise and Thanksgiving

O my God

Thou Fairest, greatest, first of all objects,

my heart admires, adores, loves thee,

for my little vessel is as full as it can be,

and I would pour out all that fullness before thee

in ceaseless flow.

When I think upon and converse with thee

Ten thousand delightful thoughts spring up,

ten thousand sources of pleasure are insealed,

ten thousand refreshing joys spread over my heart,

crowding into every moment of happiness.

I bless thee for the soul thou hast  created,

for adoring it, sanctifying it,

though it is fixed in barren soil;

for the body thou hast given me,

for preserving its strength and vigour,

for providing senses to enjoy delights,

for ease and freedom of my limbs,

for hands, eyes, ears that do thy bidding;

for thy royal bounty providing my daily support,

for a full table and overflowing cup,

for appetite, taste, sweetness,

for social joys of relatives and friends,

for ability to serve others,

for a heart that feels sorrows and necessities,

for a mind to care for my fellow men,

for opportunities of spreading happiness around,

for loved ones in the joys of heaven,

for my own expectation of seeing thee clearly.

I love thee above the powers of language to express,

for what thou art to thy creatures.

Increase my love, O my God, through time and eternity.

Thank You For a Celebration

Advent…it is almost over. Christmas is almost here. He is almost here.

And yet, we are still waiting for Him, for His second coming; He is coming for sure!  I am full of expectation, He will come and we will be free of this body that is awaiting for its redemption, its glorification. No more quarreling with our flesh. No more wanting, no more tears, or sickness, or longings…only Him.

As I am preparing my menu for Christmas Eve, Christmas breakfast, and dinner…and as I jump from one recipe to the other, I think about the Father; He is also preparing a feast, a gathering, a dinner. God and his own, those He redeemed by His blood will be sitted on that table, enjoying a great feast, a banquet. The king and His servants; the Father and His own; the Creator and His creatures; the Shepherd and His flock.

Meanwhile, I just keep flipping pages from a cookbook …, I am so grateful that I can plan a dinner for my own family and our guests. A family table to celebrate the Incarnation, a joy that must be shared. A rehearsal of a feast that will be celebrated at my King’s table.

Thank you, Lord, for the anticipation of your second coming.

Thank you for a sweet little girl who loves baking for her family.

Thank you for red, beautiful strawberries.

Thank you for your joy  that never ends.

Thank you, because I am not lost. You carry me, you have found me.

Thank you, because I am not afraid, you hide me under your wings.

Thank you, for a beautiful family that kisses a lot.

Thank you for a project involving the alphabet, watercolors, markers, scissors, glue…and lots of creativity.

Thank you for the opportunity you have given my son to help with several translations at Desiring God. Thank you!

My whole list is here., you are more than welcome to have a look…I am on week 13.

You need to read today’s post at Femina, by Nancy Wison, Get Dressed for Christmas, believe me…it is well needed today!

I have enjoyed this project a lot. All of my children have helped me with the words, the phrases…It’s been a family project.

Thank you for joining us in this Advent activity through the alphabet.

2 Corinthians 13: 5-6

“Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test! I hope you will find out that we have not failed the test.”

2 Timothy 3: 14-17

“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.  All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.”

Mark 12: 29-31

“Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and be still under His mighty hand.

And if you want to start all over ….A is for Advent…

Q is for Question

Posted in Art, Bible, Celebrate Life, Christmas with tags , , on Friday, December 18, 2009 by Becky

L is for Law

M is for Men

N is for Nail

O is for Only

P is for Peace…

This question is still there, here…for you, for me.

Only through the Holy Spirit can we get the right answer.

And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.”

Matthew 16:14-18

But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised.”

I Cor. 15:13-15

“Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions.  Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.”

Romans 6: 12-14

“But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life.  For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 6: 22-23
