My Precious Daughter’s Birthday

Posted in A Song to Sing, Birthdays with tags , , on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 by Becky

Today we will be celebrating my Precious Daughter XV birthday.

I remember it well, it was on a Friday, that we, together, struggled and worked hard. It was not an easy labor, but I felt her, and I am sure she felt my hands over my belly trying to comfort her.

That is how our relationship started, both working hard, painfully. But on that same day we saw the Lord’s hand over us, He was there, He made the miracle.

Under bright lights, and embraced by my Beloved’s stong arms, I held her. I cried. And the thing I desired the most was to see her just the way I see her today.

This is Grace.

I am off to celebrate with her!

How Sweet it is to Hold You

In Love for 63 Years

Posted in A Song to Sing with tags , , , , on Thursday, March 11, 2010 by Becky

My grandfather turned 91 years old, and has been married to my grandmother for 63 years.

They are the most beautiful couple, in love, always holding hands, always talking about their memories and present love. Always laughing and looking for opportunities to kiss and hug.

They live their moment with passion and joy. They laugh of the future, they hold hands in such a way that it seems that they don’t want to be apart, not even for a moment.

Their story of love is not a fairy tale, is a love story that has happened in real life. They came into this marriage knowing, believing that it was a covenant forever.  They have walked through valleys and mountains, but haven’t given up on their love.

This is an example of grace that we behold, and want to follow.

This is the way my children long to live their marriage.

Forever in love.

This is Real, this can happen.

Marriage is a Covenant for life.

Love and kisses and holding hands are part of being in that covenant.

It is not a fairy tale.

TOMORROW, MY FRIEND EILEEN WILL BE SHARING IN THIS SPACE ABOUT HOMESCHOOLING ONE CHILD. THE THEME WILL BE “PLAYS WELL WITH OTHER CHILDREN”…YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME TO COME. SHE IS A DELIGHT.

to sing praises to your name, O Most High;

to declare your steadfast love in the morning,

and your faithfulness by night,

to the music of the lute and the harp,

to the melody of the lyre.

For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work;

at the works of your hands I sing for joy.

How great are your works, O Lord!

Your thoughts are very deep!”

Psalm 92:1-5

Let me, Oh Lord, be quick to LOVE, quick to say Yes, I am still listening you…

Full Friday

Posted in Celebrate Life, My Children, Valentine's Day with tags , , , on Friday, February 12, 2010 by Becky

I am  excited about my weekend… it’s full of projects and great opportunities to build memories.

Beautiful fabric is awaiting to be turned into some book cover. I am looking forward to that; my Mom might come help me with this so it will be even more especial, and obviously , I will  miss my Sister more. She is full of great ideas and always fills my heart with joy. Have I told you that she is my best-friend?

We will bake and bake…I am excited to try these “Snow Pops”, and arranging a table with chocolate fondue, strawberries, and ice-cream! But the most excited one is our little one, she is even planning what she will wear..I wish I could get her  this dress from Amoretti Designs for Sunday. (But I don’t think it will arrive on time, remember that I am in another country, one closer to the Equator line!)

We are excited as well to finish reading about the meaning of God’s love in the First Epistle of John. We are memorizing some verses there, and our soul sings for joy.

What color is going to be your weekend?

Ours will be definitely RED!

May your Friday be full of joy, expectation, love…His Love!

Epiphany in Mexico

Posted in Celebrate Life, Christmas with tags on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 by Becky

Fra Angelico

Epihany, e-piph-a-ny

–noun, plural -nies.

(initial capital letter) a Christian festival, observed on January 6, commemorating the manifestation of Christ to the gentiles in the persons of the Magi; Twelfth-day.

I read this post and thought that I might share about our traditions in Mexico.

My tree is up as in everyone elses’ home in Mexico. We never take it out before this day, because the celebration continues. Our celebrations always last long, so we start January  5th with a gathering of friends and family to eat Rosca de Reyes (King’s Bread) and hot chocolate.

All the bakeries only bake Rosca de Reyes from the 4th to the 6th of January. People will make long lines to buy their favorite one!

Kids love this sweet bread that has a surprise within…a plastic white baby (baby Jesus). So as we sit around the table we take turns cutting the bread (it doesn’t have to be in a particular order, you cut anywhere) trying to find the baby Jesus. The knife symbolizes the danger that Jesus was in when Herod’s army was looking for Him, after the wise men, led by an angel of the Lord, didn’t come back to him to give him a report on where the baby was born.

We cut and cut and finally one (or maybe three if the Rosca de Reyes is big enough) finds the baby Jesus; we all cheer, and now he  will have to host a party on February the 2nd with tamales and atole.

Mexico is an extremely Catholic country,( You’d probably figured out by reading my entries that I am a Reformed, Calvinist) so many people (especially the poor) have a tradition that comes along. They take a ceramic figurine of the baby Jesus, Niño Dios, and take it to some market stands to buy some beautiful and elaborated robes for him; then they worship the figurine itself. Many people have made a new idol of this “baby Jesus”, they pray to el Niño Dios and have a shrine for him in their homes through out all the year.

Another tradition is the coming of The Reyes Magos (Wise Men), on  January the 5th. Children send a card tied to a balloon for the Magi and  leave one of their shoes besides the Christmas Tree, and leave water and hay for the camels and maybe  some cookies for the wise men.

Melchor, a white man with a long and white beard that brings gold to King Jesus;  Gaspar, a man from Asia, with a long black beard, he brings frankincense to Jesus meaning the adoration that is only due to God; and Baltazar, a black young man who brings myrrh symbolizing Jesus’ death. All from different nations, reminding us that from all people, from every nation and tribe, men and women and children will come and bow their knees at Jesus acknowledging His Kingship.

Dürer, The Adoration of the Magi

It is January the 6th, children wake up very early and run to the tree to see what present the wise men brought to them. (Here are some images for your children to color)

What should we consider now?

I like to think about my adoration to King Jesus, not baby Jesus, He was born to grow and die and rise again. He is now at the right hand of  God.

Am I willing to come  worship Him? The wise men made a long travel to worship the New Born King, my journey is shorter. Sometimes it’s from my bed to my knees, and even that short journey seems too heavy and long at times.

Am I willing to come to His Word, to listen His voice speaking to me?

The Wise Men  had to come and seek  for Jesus, today by His infinite grace, He came and found me.

The Wise Men brought Jesus gifts, but now Jesus comes to me, and gives me the gift that surpasses all, Eternal Life.

I listen to God’s voice when I come to worship Him.

When I am willing to come.

Jesus, The  Living Word of God!

*Just a note; because we don’t want our little  one to be confused about what is real and what is not. She knows that we are “playing” the magi, so we do the whole thing, balloon and shoes, but she gives Daddy a kiss of gratitude. The older children also receive a little thing, but mostly, the joy of seeing her little sister enjoying this time a lot.

WHAT IS COOKING? SHARE YOUR WEEK MENU HERE! (And grab some ideas, like cranberry-glazed pork chops!)

New Year’s Prayer

Posted in Celebrate Life, Prayer with tags , , , on Thursday, December 31, 2009 by Becky

May The Lord be our all in all.

May His grace be our strength,

In moments of fear or even despair,

May His love be a covering over us.

Let His statutes be our delight,

May we find them sweeter than honey,

And pursue them more than earthly riches.

Let our God open a fountain of love

Among us and our beloved ones.

May His joy abound on our bed as we rest

As we love.

May His joy abound as we walk  our daily path.

May His abundance be on our table

May our hands be open to give and give and give.

May the wisdom of our God reign in us

As we talk,

As we teach,

As we instruct,

As we labor daily on our way to heaven.

May the words of our mouth and the meditation of our hearts

be pleasant unto Him.

May our minds and ears be ready to hear

And our hearts and hands ready to do.

May we choose the best part

Sitting at the Lord’s feet,

even as the world revolves fiercely around us.

May Our hands be productive.

May we learn to count our days,

Not by years, but by every single moment

That the Lord allows us to breathe and move.

May the Lord give us strong bodies,

and also a heart full of faith and confidence.

Let our mouths never speak against Him,

Or His will, or His Decrees.

May we learn to see beyond our wall calendar,

Remembering that we are here only for a while.

Praying that the Lord will draw us nearer to Him this New Year…

Blessings from our home to yours.
