The Author of Life

Posted in A Song to Sing, Celebrate Life, Christmas, Just Us, My Thoughts with tags , on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 by Becky

The story was written by our God even before the creation of the world.

This perfect world, yet so imperfect.

Creation cries.

Yet it praises the Creator.

He knew we would sin. He knew we would desperately need a Saviour.

He knew we would need to drink from His water.

He had to come to give us a drink.

He, the only Saviour…He had to enter our time-line.

He who started the tictacs of time, entered time.

The everlasting God, the Alpha and Omega,

He became flesh and inhabited among flesh.

Among sin.

In the frame of time.

The Author of life came…

The Author of life came to die.

The Author of life couldn’t stay in a grave…He was Life.

Death couldn’t  hold Him.

Life overcame.

Life.

Eternal Life.

One God.

One Way.

Jesus.

Let us drink….He is the Living Water….if we drink from Him we will not thirst.

I found this little book, The Innkeeper, by John Piper...It is a nice and beautiful addition to your reading list  for the Advent. (It can be downloaded for free).

Beyond Reading….

My heart longs for the Word, the very Word of God spoken to us in the Holy Scriptures…Just as a lover reads a letter from a far away land…I long to read and read again  the same line, folding it, keeping it in a safe place. Catching myself muttering it, chewing it, making it mine.

An open Bible on the kitchen table, a little notebook with Living Words in my purse. A memory song, I am breathless…it helps me fight.

I open it, and inhale eternal words; the Holy Spirit revealing my sin, it is a mirror of the soul; and at the same time, it is the only place where it says that those sins of mine have been cast out…they have been thrown into the depths of the sea.Now I am wearing white.

It is more than reading, than passing my eyes through the words…it is about falling in love with each of them. It is about meditating on them, eating them, slowly. No rush to finish in a year.

My teacher J.C. Ryle says:

“By reading that book we may learn what to believe, what to be, and what to do; how to live in comfort and how to die in peace”

So we enjoy the reding of the Word in our home. We honor it. We meditate on the words that are like medicine, that heal our souls, that can make us wise unto salvation. Its about eternal life.

No rush, let the clock stop. It’s just Us…The Holy Spirit, the Living Word and I.

Moving beyond just reading the Word…is to fall in love with it.

Let your Word change me, transform me, O Lord!

How readest thou?

A Rehearsal of Heaven

Posted in Just Us, My Thoughts with tags , on Sunday, November 15, 2009 by Becky

I am getting ready for Sunday, a day when we gather to adore Him. It is not an ordinary day, but a day of  special rejoicing.

The Church, the bride meets the Bridegroom in corporate worship, we feast, we sing, we eat at His feet  the True Bread, and drink from His hand Living Waters.

America

All around the globe, we gather, we long for it…some freely, some underground; some in beautiful buildings, some in little houses…some with piano, others a capella. Singing hymns or Psalms, we come together; brothers and sisters, meeting our Father, longing for the great feast in heaven.

I am expectant.

My heart is swollen with joy.

A feast, a rehearsal of Heaven, here, in this little spot in the globe.

I found this post about being Called to the Feast.…I am sure you will like it!

Keep Steady my Steps

How I need to pray to this Psalm. I am so prone to wander. I need God’s Word, His light to shine on me, to guide me, to lead me.

The Word of God has been my shield, my  light. It has kept me safe in the valley of deception. His Word has shown me the way of life.

All is because of His great grace to me, a simple one.

Prone to wander

Psalm 119: 129- 136

129Your testimonies are wonderful;
therefore my soul keeps them.
130The unfolding of your words gives light;
it imparts understanding to the simple.
131I open my mouth and pant,
because I long for your commandments.
132 Turn to me and be gracious to me,
as is your way with those who love your name.
133 Keep steady my steps according to your promise,
and let no iniquity get dominion over me.
134 Redeem me from man’s oppression,
that I may keep your precepts.
135 Make your face shine upon your servant,
and teach me your statutes.
136My eyes shed streams of tears,
because people do not keep your law.

Help me Lord. not to walk astray. Help me.

Meditating on God’s Word.

How I wish to have a great memory to memorize many Bible verses! but I do not, so I am just memorizing few verses:

Psalm 119

9How can a young man keep his way pure?
By guarding it according to your word.
10 With my whole heart I seek you;
let me not wander from your commandments!
11I have stored up your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.
12Blessed are you, O LORD;
teach me your statutes!
13With my lips I declare
all the rules of your mouth.
14In the way of your testimonies I delight
as much as in all riches.
15I will meditate on your precepts
and fix my eyes on your ways.
16I will delight in your statutes;
I will not forget your word.

It is God’s Word calling us to meditate on His perfect Word. In Psalm 1 we see the same calling…

1Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2but his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.

Meditate…what is this?

Living in a New Age world, where people talk a lot about meditation we need to define our terms.

John Piper says,

“…meditating on the Word of God day and night means to speak to yourself the Word of God day and night and to speak to yourself about it”

Meditating in the Word of God is not an exercise to find ourselves; it is what God expects us to do. It is not meant to look inside of us, but to look up to look at our Saviour, his greatness.

Disturbing Image

How dangerous the words can become…meditation….so beautiful and yet so deceptive. I have found many  being deceived. They meditate on their past, on their future, they keep their eyes focused into an object…they even dare to say that they have a Bible verse as their “mantra.”

O, Lord, have mercy on me. Let me not wander from your commandments. Let me not be seduced by the devil disguised as an angel of light.

Biblical meditation…is not about being brave and  finding who I am. The only mirror in which we should look to find who we really are, is the word of God. My heart is deceptive , the Word of God is always True.

Some say that through meditation we can find inner light but there is no inner light to lighten our paths…the light is the Word, the light is Jesus, the Word made flesh.

Jesus said (John 8:12)

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.

I really recommend this article, for further study on this topic.

Marriage and Sola Scriptura.

Posted in Just Us, My Thoughts with tags , on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 by Becky

Marriage is one of the most beautiful inventions of God. I just love being married.

Being loved, and love. It seems, at times, like an everlasting love tale. His hand over mine and my body under his embrace. His prayers and hard work. He is my man, my beloved, my Amado.

Our marriage, so perfect,  suddenly does not seem like that. I want to do something, noble indeed, godly, and Christian….but he says no.  What is the response from my heart? He sends me a” kiss” through  my phone…and I think.

Do I believe the Bible? Is Sola Scriptura a banner over my life and actions?

The Bible, the Truth, says I must submit to Him. Paul in the letter to the Ephesians (5:22-24) said:

22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. 24Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.

Where is the blessing, the promise? Where?

It is just there, I just do not have the willingness to believe. As I submit to my husband I am reflecting the attitude that Jesus is expecting from His bride.

And what about the need I see outside? What am I going to do? Pray…pray and pray…God knows. He is God and is sited on the throne.

And again, do I believe in God’s sovereignty? Do I believe the doctrines that I say define my character?

It is not only kissing, and embracing. Those things which make our marriage godly are not those external signs. Jesus said that the world would know that we are his disciples when we love each other.

34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Loving God, loving Jesus, means on my daily way to heaven, to love my husband and honor his decisions. This speaks louder than a thousand “I love you”, more than kisses and embraces.

May the Lord help me to be a godly and submissive wife; a faithful bride, and great lover. A brave Christian woman who believes and acts according to her Credo.

His Music and My Song

Posted in A Song to Sing, Food, Just Us, My Thoughts with tags , , , on Sunday, October 11, 2009 by Becky

This weekend arrived, and it was different. Saturday was busy not quiet, the week  did not slow down.

I am learning, however, to  enjoy the days just as they come; reminding myself that God is sovereign. He directs my life. I am not in charge...I am not the Queen.

Friday night, four little hands, made a delicious bread for all of us to enjoy. It was great to try it, while reading from the Word that nourishes our souls. How can I keep those moments in my heart always? How can I capture the smell of the bread made by my children, the laughs at the Family Table? I pray that God will never let me  forget His grace in all those little things that made my life so full.

Loaf of Bread Oct.09

Saturday came; Big Son had to take his SAT…a moment I always thought was too far away, arrived. I just kissed him. Dear Husband and I left him and went to enjoy a beautiful time together. It was just us. Laughs and coffee, music and holding of hands.

Saturday. Amado y yo (oct.09)

All that this busy weekend has brought makes me think..that at the end, the memories will stay, and all four Dear Children will leave. This is what we are expecting, what we are anticipating. The smell of bread, the laughs, the beautiful sound of music; all will be with us, in our treasure chest where we are  keeping all these beautiful memories.

Marido

It will just be us, Dear Husband and I. Our holding of hands, our laughs, out tears, our kissing. His music and my song.

I love you..I look forward to it.

“Yo soy de mi amado, y mi amado es mío..”

Cantares 6:3
