Gratitude Monday

Posted in A Song to Sing, Endless Gifts with tags on Monday, May 10, 2010 by Becky

As I write my heart overflows with joy for the Lord is pouring rain on our very dry land.

Monday is here and I love to write about all the goodness the Lord has poured over our lives. I try to count what is impossible, His goodness, His mercies, His bounty.

{522-543}

I am thankful for balloons filled with water and the laughter of my children.

My Beloved’s hands holding mine. {and all that it means}

The reminder of what it means to be a Wife of  Valor

Fresh parsley, and sweet conversations with my precious daughter as we cooked.

The beautiful relationship between Dad and Daughter, always loving each other.

A bird on the cable. Beauty in the ordinary. A girl’s patience and eye to capture the moment.

Long phone calls with friends.

Free breakfast at Starbucks.

Friends over, and little ones making nests.

Bubbles.

“Brown paper packages… ” {more books to read!}

A great book on being a mother full of practical advice.

Peace in my soul.

Quiet after the rain, and birds looking for food in the wet ground.

My mom.

This place to write.

You.

As I opened this morning my computer and read through my favorite blogs, I found that a day like today J.C Ryle, one of my favourite authors, was born. Read more here.

A Mom’s Prayer

Posted in A Song to Sing, My Children, Prayer with tags , , , on Sunday, May 9, 2010 by Becky

Today I want to raise my voice to you O Lord,

I want to sing a new song before you. A gratitude song.

How can I thank you for allowing me the privilege to be called “Mom”?

Mom, the first word they said.

How can I thank you?

How can I thank you for making my body the place where your hands would knit beautiful beings on your own image?

A Mom in the Making

Posted in A Song to Sing, Just Us with tags , , , , , on Saturday, May 8, 2010 by Becky

It was us promising to love each other forever, until death due us apart. Two sinners entering into a God honoring covenant. Two forgiven sinners ready to live a life of sanctification together.

And God blessed us with children, one by one they came into our lives and we are all now walking in the Covenant, loving our Maker.

It’s been almost 18 years, and I still wonder at the miracle:

I did become a wife and a Mom.

I longed for this since my childhood, and the Lord heard me and answered me.

Today I am still a Mom in the making, and I am amazed; God uses sinner women like me, washes them and uses them to teach His Word to little souls, to nurture lives that will live eternally.

Isn’t God’s Grace incomprehensible?

This Mother’s Day weekend, I will be reading Praise Her in the Gates by Nancy Wilson because I am still a Mom in the making.

Marriage and Wine

Posted in A Song to Sing, Just Us with tags , , , on Saturday, May 1, 2010 by Becky

Marriage is a gift from God, and so is wine. Both are symbols of God’s blessing throughout the Bible.

Marriage and wine, both are costly, and both should get better over time.

We have learned to invest in our marriage, we travel together and leave the kids behind, because we know that we need to invest in our vineyard. There are times when you need to go away with your spouse and work hard in your land, you need to pull together weeds and after a long day of work, sit and drink from the fruit of your labor, from the richness of your marriage. From the fruit of your vineyard…

I am posting this from my iPhone!
I am sorry is not pretty.

Have a joyous weekend!

Sunday Worship

Posted in A Song to Sing, The Lord's Day with tags , on Sunday, April 11, 2010 by Becky

Because every Sunday, no matter in which part of the world we live, we, Christians,  have more in common than in any other day, I want to say: May his grace be with you as you walk into the House of the Lord today.

May we go to the house of the Lord, and rejoice in His word. May we live today in His day according to His will.

A great quote from a small little book:

“Please don’t take sunday for granted. Do whatever it takes to rediscover the wonder of it all. ..look around and remind yourself: “These are my blood.bought brothers and sisters in Christ. we are His church, His people. We are here this morning to proclaim His work in our lives. we are here to give witness to the world of His great love and power and glory’

Grace, Gratitude, Loyalty

Douglas Wilson, in his book My Life for Yours, says:

“The task confronting parents is not to get children to conform to the standard the parents believe to be Biblical. The task is to bring the children to love that biblical standard. At the very center of childrearing, therefore, is the question of inculcating loyalty. A covenant family cannot stay together without loyalty. But loyalty is a function of deep gratitude, and gratitude is a function of grace.”   p.107

I thank the Lord this week, for a loyal and grateful family.

For a Son, that comes efter a long day and reaches my forehead with a kiss and the words: “Thank you, Mom”

For my sister’s words of encouragment to her sons, and my sons.

For a van filled with children, all saying “Thank you, Dad for this day”

For all the phone calls I received from my precious daughter.

A great friend visiting us. What a great joy.

Caves that remind us of the deepest mysteries, the unexplored and hidden parts of our hearts; and the Light of the Word shining in the darkness of our souls.

Roots, strong roots, visible roots. Roots of big trees that bear much fruit.

Beautiful seeds, miracles of God’s perfect creation.

Thank you, Lord, for a beautiful garden, the sound of a water-fountain, ears to hear, eyes to contemplate, and a heart to long for a fountain of sweet water coming out from my heart.

Finding old friends in this beautiful place.

Friends chatting in the pool.

May your week be full of gratitude moments, may you have a song in your heart.

In Love for 63 Years

Posted in A Song to Sing with tags , , , , on Thursday, March 11, 2010 by Becky

My grandfather turned 91 years old, and has been married to my grandmother for 63 years.

They are the most beautiful couple, in love, always holding hands, always talking about their memories and present love. Always laughing and looking for opportunities to kiss and hug.

They live their moment with passion and joy. They laugh of the future, they hold hands in such a way that it seems that they don’t want to be apart, not even for a moment.

Their story of love is not a fairy tale, is a love story that has happened in real life. They came into this marriage knowing, believing that it was a covenant forever.  They have walked through valleys and mountains, but haven’t given up on their love.

This is an example of grace that we behold, and want to follow.

This is the way my children long to live their marriage.

Forever in love.

This is Real, this can happen.

Marriage is a Covenant for life.

Love and kisses and holding hands are part of being in that covenant.

It is not a fairy tale.

TOMORROW, MY FRIEND EILEEN WILL BE SHARING IN THIS SPACE ABOUT HOMESCHOOLING ONE CHILD. THE THEME WILL BE “PLAYS WELL WITH OTHER CHILDREN”…YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME TO COME. SHE IS A DELIGHT.
