One Thing That Can’t Be Graded.
Tests, essays, Math, drawings, History, mostly all can be measured, can be graded, but one thing, the most important, can only be weighed by the Lord.
How is the heart of my children?, how much I have invested in my children’s heart? how many long talks?, how often we prayed together?…his is why we are homeschooling. We wanted to be close, to be able to impart God’s wisdom, to bring up our kids in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. (Ephesians 6:4)
I see them growing, almost at the same time I am holding them in my arms. I must not forget that they are still under my care. God has appointed us, parents, to teach them and see over them. I like to be attentive on what they eat, and yet it seems, that at times, I just do not ask them about their private spiritual life.
“Have you brushed your teeth? Have you finished the book? What about your essay? Did you eat all your greens?”…..but I fail to ask, “Have you prayed today? Have you had a personal time with the Lord? Did you read your Bible?”
Yes, we all do pray and read our Bibles together daily. I bring the Word of God into every conversation; But as they grow I see the urgency of asking them about their own spiritual life. They are still under my care. And their herats will be weighed by the Lord.
It is not only important to set an example. They need to be asked. We, as sinners, are not prone to pray. We battle our flesh, we learn through discipline and by the Holy Spirit. I am homeschooling because I want to teach my children to keep their priorities in order, and personal prayer and Bible reading should be on the top of the list. The Holy Sprit will draw them to Him, but the Bible, clearly teaches that God has appointed parents to bring up godly men and women.
These are my thoughts, my own evaluation. The most important things -prayer and personal Bible reading and meditation-can not be graded, but must be pursued.
The condition of my children’s heart is what matters.
I must invest in longer talks, in more quiet times.
I must pray more and meditate more in His Word, in His promises.
Daily on my way to heaven, one step a day, always towards Him. Always by His grace.
